ROSITA
🌹ROSITA🌹
“Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation” (Psalm 71:18 NLT).
Can a rosebush be a LightBearer?
My “Rosita” is decades old, an unusual lifespan for a knockout rose. She has grown into a substantial bush, much larger than her little sisters. Each summer, she has blazed our back yard with a splash of true red with her prolific blossoms.
But this summer, orange powdery mold brought rose rust and dying leaves to her branches. The remedy was severe: Cut off the dead leaves and burn them so that this invasive mold doesn’t spread.
Rosita looks considerably smaller now, yet with my gentle words and tender care, she is blooming once again, not to be deterred by her ailments.
She is a LightBearer to me, reminding me that God doesn’t give up on us when we are “old and gray.” He still has a purpose for us.
As the Psalmist says in Psalm 71, “God, don’t walk off and leave me until I get out the news of your strong right arm to this world” (MSG).
No matter our physical state, we still have a legacy to pass on to our families and friends. In the words of the song:
🎶All my life you have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God. 🎶

PRAYER: God, Faithful through the ages, Thank you for always giving us your favor and protection and a reason to sing. AMEN
